A VISIT BY THE AUTHOR

How was it that he who called himself the Alexandra man was able to gain the trust of these young girls online? What was it that made so many girls willing to undress and expose themselves in front of a webcam? And what made them willing to meet with him and have sex in exchange for money? How come a grown man is having sex with young girls, pays for it, and thinks he has done nothing wrong? And how is it that adults and parents sometimes abandon their children, leave them to struggle and wrestle with their experiences all alone?

During her lecture, Katia Wagner tells of her encounters with these young, exposed and abused girls. She tells of the interviews with the Alexandra Man and about the various ways in which we can prepare the young people of today for what can happen online.

A lecture that is geared toward not only the children and their parents, but also for all adults who work with children in everyday life.

The lecture begins with Katia Wagner telling us about the young girls, interviewed in the book, who met the so-called Alexandra Man. Their stories paint a grim picture of how exposed young girls are, not only online but also in real life as more and more are left to fend for themselves as their parents desert them. Their tales also show how many children and adolescents use the internet. According to the committee for preventative crimes, last year half of all young girls were approached online by an adult wanting to engage in sexual activities.

The narratives of these young girls also expose a huge disconnect between adults and children. Mija Toftner claims that at several occasions opportunities existed in which the adults surrounding the young girls’ life could have acted in a different manner, and thus perhaps prevented much of what happened. She also provides tools for how adults can improve their communication skills with their children, as well as advice on how parents can narrow the gap between themselves and their children, to learn how to be more supportive in case something goes wrong.

Igor Ardonis develops the principles in the concept Self-defense. The nucleus is self recognition and training, i.e. to learn how to not only use one’s physical means, but also one’s mental assets, to better tackle and handle everyday life. All of us can develop and improve our abilities to influence our behavior, our performance and our bodily reactions.
